2016 Hardin Valley Academy Rohawktics TeamMagnum Venus Products, Inc. (MVP), sponsored the 2016 Hardin Valley Academy FIRST® Robotics team, the “RoHAWKtics,” in a national robot-engineering competition. Described as the “ultimate sport for the mind” and the “hardest fun you’ll ever have,” FIRST® Robotics tasks high school teams across the nation to assemble a team of twenty or more students, raise funds, establish a brand, and finally build an industrial-sized robot. The teams then take the robots to regional or national competitions where they subject them to field games against other squads.

During this season, the RoHAWKtics won the Smoky Mountain Regional competition in Knoxville, Tenn., and later made it to the semifinals of the Palmetto Regional competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Due to their impressive performance, the team was seeded eighth in the World Championships in St. Louis, Miss.

The Hardin Valley team formed in 2011 when a student, fascinated by robotics, asked a computer science teacher to start a team. Since then, the RoHAWKtics have performed well, winning the Smoky Mountain Regional in 2013, 2015, and 2016. They also won the Palmetto Regional in 2015.

FIRST® is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting Mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.” The group also holds another robotics contest called the FIRST® Tech Challenge in addition to Lego-building tournaments.

Below is the letter the MVP team received from the RoHAWKtics (otherwise known as FIRST® Team 3824):

FIRST Team 3824 would like to thank you for your generous support. This has been a fantastic year and we have been able to achieve great success, placing highly in both regional competitions that we have competed in. While competing at the Palmetto Regional in Myrtle Beach we were part of the third place alliance, and later we were able to win the Smoky Mountains Regional in our home town. Due to the level of success we were able to participate in the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri. While at the World Championship in St. Louis, we competed in the Carson division and were selected by the 8th seeded alliance to compete in the divisions quarter trials. None of this would have been possible without your assistance. All organizations thrive with the support of others and we are thrilled your are willing to offer your help. We hope you will continue your sponsorship as we had into another season.

Sincerely,
The Members of FIRST Team 3824

MVP is happy to sponsor Hardin Valley and wishes them the best of luck in future competitions.
