MVP Celebrates 50th Anniversary and Groundbreaking for New Expansion

On May 22nd, Magnum Venus Products (MVP), the premier manufacturer of composite application equipment, will celebrate two great events in one. On that afternoon from 2-4 p.m., the company will commemorate its 50 year anniversary, and also observe the official groundbreaking for its new 80,000-square foot manufacturing facility near the company headquarters in Knox County, Tennessee. With growing market demand for its products in many industries, as well as the large number of composite-related businesses moving into the area, the new plant further cements MVP’s ties to the Knoxville area.

The event will be held on the 7.5-acre property where the plant will be built, in the Hardin Business Park off Hardin Valley Road at Bertelkamp Lane across from Fed-Ex.

It’s going to be a great event—we are expecting a turnout of about 150 people, including many folks from our company and our leadership, along with partner organizations and local elected officials who helped us along the way,” said Ron Blackburn, of MVP. “One of our keynote speakers that day will be the county mayor, and we’re also lining up speakers from nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory, ORNL, and possibly other partner labs as well.”

The speakers will also participate in the official breaking of ground at the new facility. The afternoon will continue on an informal note, with food, drinks and fun during a networking hour immediately following the groundbreaking.

MVP expects to hire 70 additional employees to staff the new facility during the second half of 2017. In order to educate prospective new hires, some of the partner organizations will set up tabletop booths at the event, with information about the opportunities East Tennessee has to offer.

This event is going to be a mix of formal and informal, reflecting our company culture, which is formal in some aspects, but with an informal family feeling as well,” Blackburn explained.

MVP began as a family company founded by Jim Hedger, Senior. Peter Hedger is now President and CEO, while Peter Hedger, Jr. is the Director of Marketing. The entire Knoxville office, along with employees at other locations including Washington State and Florida, have been invited to the event.

One of the reasons this 50 year anniversary is so important is that breaking ground on the new facility not only cements a true milestone for our company, but also shows that we are committed to the Knoxville community and to our employees,” said Blackburn. “We live here, we love it here, and that’s why we are putting down roots to expand further as the business grows.”
